go to scale4x4rc.org. I lot of it is scale odd-road trucks but they can help. There are lots of awsome fabricators on there.

Who said you can't? This is a basic design that can be built with no special tools.

what I don't understand is how to connect the motor to the drivetrain??If I knew that then I don't think I would have trouble doing it.

there's a guy on another site i use wanting to do the same thing with probably a similar engine.
i don't know of any transmissions that'd handle it and be big enough.

i suggested a clutch like from a go-kart, like i have in my go-kart, and then have the chain wrap around a sprocket that's welded around the rear axle, just have the rear axle be a solid shaft.

i think it'd work and be pretty cool, it's how my go-kart is set up, but in the beginning, you'd have the play with gear-ratios before you WELDED a sprocket in place on the axle. or you could find a non-permanent way to attach it, shouldn't be too hard.

Use a Motor with a clutch and you will have No problem. I built my buggy with independant suspension. Not a solid axile. Harder to do but better. I wouldn't weld anything if I were anyone else. It is easier to make changes. My buggy is all bolted together.:)

You have the choice of gear, chain or belt drive. Gear drive is the most compact for space. Chain and belt require mores space. These items are Not of the shell items you can get at a local hardware store. They are off the shell items on online stores.:p

After several tanks of gas and minor gear adjustments , I am happy to report what a great build. even though it not completly finished (I need to add a roll cage) the buggy preformed flawlesly. Only minor changes needed. Mainly the gearing. It was a little slow . it never topped out. So I changed the gearing to give it more power. WOW what a improvement no I can do donuts all day and the speed is good for this size engine. What a great $250 budget buggy project.:D

My next project will be to build a pulling truck 2wd and 4wd with my rear end and reverse transmission and my new adjustable gear box.:D I will combine all my projects into one great truck.:D

UPDATE:

After several weeks of testing and bashing I am still adjusting the final gear ratio.I still have too much power. I had to start making my own sprockets to find the best gear ratio because not all the sizes are avaiable.:( Not a problem for me.

Skellenger Qc rear ends are selling for $ 800-1200:mfr_omg: I am glade I make my own. The pulling truck is comming along. I have the fame finished. The adjustable gearbox and rear end all done. All parts are Aluminum.:D I have to get rear rims and make front rims and mount everything.:D

iwould use a chainsaw motor they always have a clutch just have to know someone who is good at welding to weld a sprocket on their straight

mbbaj2001

chain saw motors are heavier and require more modifing to use. I found that commercial trimmer motors are easier to work with. NO welding required for this or my new project.:D

I have finished the pulling truck. all I need to do is order a body for it and mount it. I am going to wait to order the body untill I have the Monster truck frame done. The buggy is running great. I have made some replacement parts due to wearing. I expected that. IE drive cups , dog bones and the 8 tooth sprockets are the only part I have done. I will have to order the material to make the roll cage and get some plastic sheet to finish of the body. Nothing big. I am now devoting all my time to the Monster truck. The frame looks awsome. Better than the origional New era frame I think. :D much lighter.:D

I never post any pictures untill I see any of my project run for the first time.:D My track record is good. This is because of trolls stealing my pictures and claiming my work as their own with no proof backing up what they did.Their are always people trying to steal my ideas to make a buck and discredit the origional owner. I have 13 yrs building experience and can build anything I want. Cheaper than what the current value is.:D Proof : my budget buggy cost me $250 complete with servos no radio. current market Value $1500.

I finally found a cheap engine for my pulling truck. I wanted a Echo but the prices are high for used ones. So I bought a Homelite 30 cc. engine Replaced the carb and wala. A great little motor for $20. I installed it in and test drove a little. I think it was a better choice. lots of power.:D

I thought about getting a couple 1/4 scale high end servos and making a remote control racing cart. I never went through with it because I can't afford the servos. And getting the brakes to work correctly would of been tough. But I can totally see someone doing this with the spare cash on hand.

jonesmaxx
07-21-2008, 06:34 AM
And I know this sounds stupid, but what is a skellenger rear end? And if they sell for $800-$1200 that's what you should have had patented.

mbbaj2001
07-21-2008, 06:59 AM
You don't need alot of money to build a 1/4 scale. I have proven that with my $250 budget buggy. Servos are'nt that expensive. I have found 2 1/4 scale servos for $26 + shipping and they work fine. A skellenger Qc rear end is the ultimate rear end for 1/4 scale they sell for $1200 if you can find them. I only make a clone version. much cheaper. I can make alot of 1/4 scale parts. IF I want it I will make it. It just takes time. Material is cheap for me $0.00 most of the time unless I need something special. Then I shop around and get a good deal 50% off.:D

07-21-2008, 07:10 AM
Oh, I thought it might be some 1/4 scale crawler stuff or something. What servo's did you find that cheap? I think the one's I was looking at were over $200 each. Do they make a 1/3 or 1/2 scale servo?

mbbaj2001
07-22-2008, 06:07 AM
The Monster truck i am making, You can use some of the parts for a crawler. rear ends, transfer case, reverse tansmission, 4 wheel steering kit. I can adapt the parts for anything. I use some cheap digital servos off Ebay. 280 oz each. fine for steering my buggy. I use the Tone o50 for steering my monster trucks (2 of them). These cost $200 each but wort it. Only problem is the output gear can break easy if you drive it hard and hit something (no servo saver). I fixed that problem with a alloy output conversion(wich I made ). Much stronger.

I have been doing alot of driving and testing different gear ratios and found the 12.6:1 is working the motor. looks like more speed but not enough room to open it up in my backyard.13.125 is excelent for short tracking in the backyard. Everything is holding up well even the sprockets I made. I just need to put a rollcage and some body armer on sometime.:) Too bussy with other project.

Dear MT TRUCKER14,

You have received a new private message at RCMT Forums from RCH_Blackfoot, entitled
"A conman making claims".

To read the original version, respond to, or delete this message, you must log in here:
http://www.myrcmt.com/bd/private.php

This is the message that was sent:

Hello, Im Scott, Blackfoot on Clodtalk, Brett of CPE told me where to find you.

OK, there is this clown on RCJunkyard who is claiming to make all these 1/4 scale parts
and also claiming to be the "Originator of the first complete skellenger clone rear
end and reverse transmission"

He just talks himself up about how good he is, but after hundreds of requests from all
the members there, he ignores our demand for pictures to his claims. A member did a
search on him and he found a thread this guy started and I read through all 11 pages and
on page 8 post #116 he posted up a picture of your 1/4 Jugg with the original 1/10 on the
bed. I knew right away that I had seen that picture somewhere and I posted up a thread in
ClodTalk as I thought it was there. Brett told me it was on RCMT that I saw it and you
just removed the pic recently.

Here is the clowns name. mbbaj2001

Here is the thread on RCGroup where I saw the picture
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=489861&page=8

and here is the site called RCJunkyard, where he is making these claims. You will need to
join up to view the posts.

Spring has Sprung

This is your picture, correct? I added it to my Photobucket, because he used the RCGroup
attachment option, that way the true original owner cannot be traced.
Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/blackfooter/bb1.jpg

My name is sweetstyrene on RCJunkyard, just so you know who I am there.

So if this is your truck, I wanted you to know that he is making claims that he owns it,
built it and is a machining god. Please if his claims are false, join up on RCJunkyard
and put this guy in his place, so we can shut him and his "Im a God" talk up.

Thank you,
Scott

Then why didnt you ever man up when everyone was asking and begging for info about this and your stuff?

I stand corrected and I do appologise about the picture. I was wrong about the picture that was posted not being yours, but other then that, where is all the stuff that you make and is the best?

You however still crave on people posting and asking for pictures and you ignore them, so its human nature to believe that your claims are false without atleast letting us in on your claims.

Oh and this by no means makes me a liar. I never claimed anything other then your claims were and still are unfounded by any proof other then 1 ancient 35mm scanned picture, that anyone can say is theirs.

Post up your "Original Clone Tranny" but how can a clone be an original????
