No not really. Just because it can take a beating does not mean it like a radioshack car. You can make a ruster as fast as any other elc ST

That's your thoughts, you must of had plenty, the nitro rustler is not a radio shack compareable. They are great stadium racers, you can upgrade and experiment with these. Now the new elec rustys are hitting 70 out the box!

My first r/c was a .15 it was a pos it wouldnt go anything, my dad has it now we just bought the new .15 to 2.5 upgrade hopping how much it will take aways from ****ing, well we will see. I would never buy another rustler my .02

My only problem with my rustler is the **** cvd kit.I put a 3.3 on it with a bigger cooling head filter all aluminum susp. exhaust and It keeps breaking the metal bones. Cant even punch it without it breaking so its pointless for me to drive now or i have to dump out another 40 for a cvd kit everytime i ride.

I wouldn't say that.. there are lots of things you can do with a rustler, like fix it if you break something. Can't do that with a radioshack.. that and radioshack RCs go all of about 4 MPH. I just got a rustler on a trade and I used to think very poorly of them but I am having a blast with it. Not to say I would take it to a race it but it is alot of fun to bash around with.

I had some fun with mine today. I tell you what, they are durable as ****. I have RPM lower arms front and rear. Some other minor mods and I think I got 4 cartwheels out of it and didn't break a thing. I haven't had a more fun truck for going fast and jumping far. I put a 19T on mine with a decent ESC, nice a quick. For the price these things go for you can't have more fun. You can pick one of these up on ebay with some minor mods on the for $75-$95 ready to go. Personally, I don't think you will have more fun for that much money.

I know I am replying to an old thread, but I just joined and noticed that the question was not really answered.

I don't have vids, but I have a Rustler with a Mamba Max 5700 and plenty of upgrades.

Let's see... running a 2s LiPo, geared at 20/86 (if I recall) I was getting up to about 45mph. Not crazy fast, but believe me, when you go to turn, that is plenty fast. The 5700 will handle a 3s liPo, and I would love to try it some time, but it's really not practical for the driving I do. The 2s is a lot of fun and I think more than that would be too much. I could also install taller gearing and do some speed runs, but the motor would get hot. I actually put an even smaller pinion on it... not sure how many teeth smaller, I will have to double check later.

The punch is incredible. I had to put and aluminum idler in. I have a steel idler coming in the mail along with the VXL diff case this week. I run on a track, although I do not race, and I found that to not spin out, I had to pack the diff with heavy grease. That limited the slip enough. I didn't want to lock the diff because I do drive on hard surfaces once in a while and I want to be able to turn.

You will want a wheelie bar. Period.

As far as the (old) comment about a Radio Shack RC being as good as a Rustler... as far as racing goes, perhaps. I really have heard very little good about the Rustler when it comes to racing. UltimateTraxxas.com has a lot of tips to change the car into something competitive, but man... that is a lot of stuff to do and way beyond the means of most people. But let's be real. Most people don't even race. Even many of the people who bash Traxxas aren't racers. Many of them are just elitists who like to one-up the guys who paid less for their cars. *shrug* I like my Rustler. I like that I can buy a lot of stuff that fits on it that makes the car uniquely mine even if it may not amount to much more than bling. Heck... it didn't even start life as a Rustler. It was a Bandit. I converted it. I like that I can hit a web site or go to my LHS and get parts either made by Traxxas or made by third party manufacturers to upgrade my car. To be honest, I don't want a car that has already reached its pinnacle the moment that it is taken out of the box. I want to do more than drive. I like that perhaps I can make the car a little better.... or a lot better.
