So a couple of days ago I traded for my first Nitro truck. Its a tmaxx 2.5r. I think I got hosed though. It ran, but every time I would hit the throttle it would just rev for a minute, then take off sometimes I even had to give it a push start. The linkage from the carb gets caught in the spur gear at full throttle, because I had to move the engine as close as possible to the spur gear because there was not enough mesh. The spur gear itself is off balance, it doesnt fit on the bearing correctly, and the disks in the cups on the spur gear are worn to nothing. There were no pegs in the spur gear so I bought some, and they don't fir. All this has me thinking, I have to have the wrong spur gear in there... The machine bucks while idleing, its hard to explain its like it catches then stops over and over. I took it up to my local hobby shop and they said they thought it was the transmission, so I opened it up and sure enough there was a gear shaved down to nothing. I replaced this gear and it still bucks and doesnt catch when I apply the throttle. I am so lost. All in all I have no clue why this thing is giving me so much trouble. Also I burned through three glow plugs in a matter of an hour. Could running to rich do this?

So my questions are:
Does running rich blow glow plugs?
Is my spur gear the wrong gear for the truck?
How can I adjust my linkage so that it doesnt hit the spur gear?
Why is my machine bucking?

There you should find some photos i thought would be helpful. I have never used photobucket, let me know if it works or not.

By the way the gear that was chewed up in the transmission was a primary gear, not sure if it was forward or reverse, it is the smaller one, the female end of the spline.

Switch to a 3.3 tranny, it doesn't have that blasted dog clutch in it. It also doesn't have reverse either but the gears are MUCH stronger.

where would I get a 3.3 tranny? And I have heard bad things about metal spur gears, should I replace it?

Nothing wrong with running a steel spur as long as you keep your gear mesh properly set. What size clutch bell, and have you inspected the clutch shoes and springs?

18 Tooth clutch bell and yea I looked at the clutch shoes, looked fine. I still have no clue why I can accelerate for a solid 20 seconds before it goes anywhere, or I have to give it a shove... There werent any pegs in the slipper clutch, could that be why?
