hi all. well being a traxxas hater i actually ended up with a tmaxx. i traded for my mint keen hawk. i am impressed with the quality and am excited to do some stuff to it. problem is the guy i got it from has had it a few years. the motor is not the same and he got it from his friend. so i can't figure out what generation of tmaxx it is. i would like some help.

anyone know a way to figure out what i got. i will post some pics when i get home tonight

does have the reverse transmission.
motor is unidentifiable. the word "factory" is engraved on the side of the block. definitely not a traxxas engine. looks like a .12 maybe. either way it's going to get replaced so i don't care.

Oh motor with factory on it, sounds like a magic wheel knock off t-maxx.

welll he said it's not the motor it came with. all the electronics and and receiver boxes and what not and the radio have traxxas all over them. it all looks like 1/10 parts that magic wheel is listed as 1/8. i hope that *** didn't f me over.

i hope it's not a clone that will piss me off.

i tried to break the arms with my hands and i really couldn't without tearing something. seems pretty good.

It looks like a 1.5 t-maxx to me. The exhaust, if original gives that away. It goes through the chassis plate, as far as I know only the 1.5 did that. The rest go out the side.

so i don't have the knock off is what i am understanding? if so then great. i need to looks for parts under tmaxx 1.5 then? can i still get the rpm arms and stuff for it? also i have looked and came up with nothing. anyone know an assembly guide other than the exploded views. maybe that a third party does or anything. i'm spoiled with tamiya and hpi with the kits. wish the tmaxx came as a kit i would have bought it new.

that is awesome that it is real. i couldn't believe of all trucks i picked to trade i'd get one that has potential to be a counterfit. spent a better part of the day trying to figure that out. like i said i have always been kind of a traxxas hater because of going to a shop without a traxxas got old. but starting take it apart, it's beefy and it'll take some abuse. and it came with a nice set of mashers. the ability to adjust the suspension completely is awesome. i hate the radio. it's an eye sore and uncompfortable for sure. but since the reverse is going i can use my futaba.

what i have in mind is:

getting rid of the reverse
taking out the s3003's for higher torque servos
rpm arms etc
stainless steel screw set
shocks are a little too soft so rebuild
motor i have no idea. want to go .18 or may .21. i have an rs4 that i recently rebuilt from a 50 dollar craigslist find. dropped a t3.0 in it and it flies. still real green on nitro.

The engine in the pics is made by Ofna. The Ofna Force 15 in my wife's T-Maxx has the exact same emblem cast on the side. Sorry but I can't help with the engine size.

What you have is a first generation T-Maxx with the .15 motor, even thought the motor may have been changed, the clue is the exhaust, it exits through the chassis. It also has the early model transmission with reverse gear, that's why there are three servos. These models were used up through the 2.5 motor models and then when they went to the 3.3 the transmission, driveline and some other items were changed.

reverse is a weak gear. if it brakes your done. theres more to getting rid of it than unpluging the servo. you need a forward only conversion, about 12 bucks for that tranny. if you upgrade the arms, you will need to change the toe links and steering links. new ones and any rpm arms are wider. yours is known as a narrow maxx
a good drop in engine for that model would be the OS.18 cvrx will work with your exhaust and throttle linkage
here
http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/pit-lane/motor-swap/tm-motor-swap.asp. theres also a how to on the forward only conversion
