dont get the vxl kit! the vxl esc is junk, the motor rocks though. how much are you looking to spend? what are you using her for?

Well the castle creations mamba max 5700kv system would kick some rs4 ****, with a nice 2s lipo batt and something like 16/90 gearing to start. But youll have to watch your temps and adjust the gears from there.

You know you and many people need to get out of Castle Creations jock. I have several different Mamba kits and several Traxxas VXL kits. They perform just as good. I have never once had any problems what so ever with the VXL kit. They are very well priced and are insainly fast out of the box. To get the same amount of cell Mamba kit you need at least the 5700 combo. I have never had one burn out, die or over heat. I understand that it does not have the fancy computer programming mode. But honestly what average person uses that more than the first time they program the Mamba kits? People like you are stuck on brand names for absolutely no reason. Next time when you blast a product try giving reasons as to why. Hell there are videos on youtube of people getting rustler vxls to 80+ mph with guess what? VXL full systems.

Also when you drop 3 cells into a 5700 combo you are pushing it to its max. You really should only use 2 cell. The VXL system can take any 3 cell lipo like a champ and still stay almost ice cold. All I use is 3 cell lipos and my VXL's do just as good as the Mambas.

If your just gonna use it for bashing that's why I recommended getting the VXL system. They are great quality, you can get them at a smokin deal on ebay. I have gotten plenty for $100 for the entire kit. You can not beat that. To give you a little similiar comparison, I have a full VXL kit in my Slash. Let me tell ya that the thing is almost uncontrollable. I had to put some front weights on it this past weekend. Just to keep it from taking off like a plane. I would only recommend getting a Mamba kit if you are going to drop it in 8th scale or larger. The Mamba monster esc's are better for those applicaitons. But anything 12th - 10th scale I would drop VXL in any day. Just like the Mambas they have lipo cut off. They are easy to set up. Unlike the Mambas they never loose the programming. Often times the Mambas just loose all the info and you gotta reprogram them out of the clear blue sky. Especially if you let it sit on the shelf with out using it for a long duration of time. Also these days 3 cell lipos can be purchased at such great prices, there is really no need to buy ****py 7.4 cell lipos. So you are gonna want an esc that can handle them. Better yet an esc that can take them both. Most of the low end Mambas can only take 2 cell lipos. So please don't listen to uneducated biased recomendations. So many people hate on Traxxas just because....I have yet to have any of those people give me one good reason they are so hard on them. So many people in this hobby are brand *****s. They read way to many RC mags and see the pros using the high end stuff. But what they fail to realize is that the pros are sponcered and get that stuff free or at a very low cost. I speak from personal experience. I can show you my collection with them both. I can afford any thing out there. So I am being unbiased to ya.

Traxxas has worked the bugs out of the vxl esc and now it is one of the nicest combos for the price.

If your restricted on cash go to hobbypartz.com and you can get a ez run system. They are also very good and very cheap. I own 3 systems myself.

Wow another unbiased opinion that doesn't recommend a castle creation product off the top. I think it's gonna snow in June :)

I am gonna have to check that web site out myself. I need a couple cheap brushless esc's that can take some 3 cells and can be pushed.

vge72 you obviously dont know the difference . first off the vxl motor is made by castle, second the vxl esc has lvc issues, it does overheat and then burn up and isnt too good about keeping calibrated. i know i have gone through 3x of thm before i got my mm esc. if your looking to spend a bit less than the mamba max system the sidewinder is a good system, and i have heard good things about the ez run, and the havoc systems

wow its getting rough out here ive used both systems id say without the overheating issues on one system there are pretty close so i say enjoy either system and as your funds increase try out others

First off can you prove that the VXL motor is made by castle? This is new news to me. I know they make the newer motor that comes in the eRevo Brushless Edition. But to my knowledge they have nothing to do with the VXL system.

Second if you put fans on both the VXL motor and esc like many other brushless systems you wont have any heat issue.

THird I know plenty of people including myself that has the VXL system and not one of them has ever complained about any calibration issues. You are the first.

Forth I run my VXl's hard and often. Not once have I had to replace either the motor or the esc. Also none of my friends have had any issues either. I am not sure what your doing or what type batteries or how your set up is. But there should be no reason why you should be killing 3 esc's no matter the manufacturer for that matter if you use it based on the specs.

This is funny. Any company that says things like this is obvioulsy trying to get you to buy the most expensive things they make.

"Does Sidewinder replace Mamba Max? No, the Sidewinder series is designed for sport customers. Hard core racers will still demand Mamba Max power, just like the national champion drivers do. Sidewinder is an exciting entry point for high performance brushless offering approximately 2/3rds of the extreme power available with Castle’s Mamba systems."

Who cares what the national champion drivers do? You give anyone free stuff and they will promote you to the end of time.

well first if you dont beleve me on the vxl motor being made by castle??? put to of them next to eachother, ingnore the color, and look at the construction. after that take them both apart, and like magic all of the parts are exactally the same. second i am not sponcered, or have any other affiliation with castle. i have tried quite a few differnt setups and the best so far has been the vxl motor with a mamba max esc. though i havent tried an ez run system, i hear good things about them. FYI castle isnt the most expencive Tekin is. Anyway Ram1500 said that he was looking for a good system to compete with his buddys RS4, since the rustler is never going to handle better than an RS4, hell need the speed. thus the 5700kv system.

Wow, that has to be the worse deductive reasoning I have ever heard. So your saying because they look the same that they are made by the same companies? You know what based on that there is really no need to even continue this discussion. Anyone that would take advice from someone that assumes that because two items look the same they are made by the same company is insane. If that really were the case then 90% of 10th scale stadium type trucks were made by one company. Example.....RC10T, XXXT, Duratrax truck, and many many more have almost the EXACT same chassis style and layout. So if I were to use your reasoning I would be able to conclude that they are all made by one company......NOT.

Anyway back to the intelligent conversation. Again Traxxas makes some nice products. As stated before the newer ones are even better made than the original. If you buy an original like I did off ebay really cheap you can call traxxas when you get it and tell them it has issues and they will give you a new one free. Just dont tell them you got it off ebay :)

As far as that other site mentioned. Well thats gonna be my new home. I am about to dump about $300 in chargers, batteries, esc's and motors.

vge72 you obviously dont know the difference . first off the vxl motor is made by castle, second the vxl esc has lvc issues,

first: vge is a pretty good source for info....

second: you put any brand brushless motor side by side it looks the same! i have novak and lrp in the garage and if you look at them they look the same!

third: the vxl is a good esc for the price, i beat the h-e-l-l out of mine and it never over heated. that was with a losi 3 cell lipo~!i ran the vxl set up for 6 months no problems.

unless you used the wrong gearing, packs with a too high of "C" rating.

and welcome to the forum ram1500....fellow RW!

vxl down sides are no PC usb hook up. but you have three modes, other bad is it is only 3800KV but i was happy with 3 cell lipo in my slash.

mamba+'s are usb, helps when you are running a high rpm per KV rating, you can fine tune the power curve, (unless you have a dx3s/r or equal to radio you can do it there.)

lol so you really think if I do this...

Vge72...... calling Traxxas tech support "hey some dude told me castle creations made the VXL motors."

Traxxas tech support....."this is tech support sir not manufacturing support. we doing give out that kind of trade secret."

Vge72....."but some guy on the net told me you would tell me who made the motor."

Traxxas tech support...."look how old are you, did you not hear me just tell you that we dont give out that info."

Traxxas tech support..."click"

Vge72...."hello hello"

Jrz13 - Wow I love your choice of words.

Back on topic now...Hey Ram I am going to be ordering some esc and motors from hobbypartz.com I will post and tell you how I like them. Those prices are simply amazing. For less than $300 I am getting two 8th scale brushless esc's, 10th scale onroad brushless combo, 20 deans connectors, and a ac/dc lipo charger. I mean come on where else can you get a deal like that? That site is better than ebay!
