T-Maxx 2.5R engine replacement- drop in 3.3?

Hello again!

My T-Maxx 2.5R from the earlier huge long post has very low compression. My local hobby shop suggested replacing the engine. If I spring the extra $25 to get a 3.3, will it be a simple drop-in replacement for the existing 2.5, or will I have to change the transmission as well?
